Many make daily choices which associate themselves with Christ in the eyes of others. They take confidence in the approval they gain from those whom they have respect for. While those choices are associated with Christ, they do not join faith to Him. And faith must be joined to Him to be made living by His Spirit. Just as a power tool is associated with professionals, if it is not plugged into the source of power, it is nothing but a collection of metals and plastic.
Note that Jesus made choices which offended their religious sensibilities of the theologians of His day. His choices were not met by their approval and they saw His teaching as a threat to the very fabric they had woven in their communities.
Choices of faith do not gain favor in the eyes of those who seek honor from men but they do join faith to to Christ and they are sustained and carried to completion by His Spirit. Choices of faith work with revelation, not ingenuity. Choices of faith are made by first reflecting upon the pattern revealed by God for faith to follow and then acting upon that pattern by building with the knowledge and tools which originate in His Kingdom.
