When faith is not expressed through these things we love in word and in tongue; but not in deed and in truth which profits the soul. This is the distinction the Lord made for the Pharisees when he said “You honor me with your lips [by the Torah] but your heart is far from me. The truth makes known the standard of God and restricts the imagination so that we can embrace Him and die to ourselves. This is how we love our brother which God showed us.
